Good Reader

These are things a good reader does.

  • Preview the book by looking at pictures, reading the author's name, reading the title and subheads, and reading the back of the book.

  • Set a purpose for reading. If you don't know your purpose for reading, you might be wasting your time. So, before you read, think about why you are reading. Is it for pleasure? Is it to learn about something? Is it to learn to do something?

  • Think about what will happen next.

  • Wonder about things in your reading and ask questions about them.

  • Think about what the author is saying. What is the author's reason for writing?

  • Read between the lines. What doesn't the author actually say? What does the author imply?

  • Make pictures or visualize while reading.

Enjoy reading!
